A Decidedly Different Fundraiser for an Aquarium, Brought to You by Florida!

Let's pretend that you want to raise money for a local aquarium. What would you do?

If you are in Tampa, apparently you have a Sushi Showdown!

The event has been sold out for a month, and of course, PETA ain't happy.

Then again, neither is the Tsar. He's a big sushi fan and would have loved to be there.

(Note: I am not a fan of PETA, the link does NOT take you to a donation page. Just a truth page....if you really want to help animals, get thee to your local shelter. It has a far better placement rate, and they could use your help in their important mission.)

There ia a facility near here that rehabilitates wild animals. Thry depend on donations. I took some baby rabbits there3 about a year ago and was entranced. I was outside talking to the directoe and I had a Blue Jay and a Mockingbird land on my head. There were deer that walked right up to me. I have forgotten the e-mail but will look it up and post it. They deserve our support much more than PETA>

Are they involving strippers? It might be considered community service!

We have a wonderful place in the Denver area; that if you bring in a stray that winds up on your doorstep, they neuter and give the shots for a very fair price and return them to you. We see alot of strays here, usually from city folks bringing their unwanted pets up here to the mountains and letting them loose, thinking that they will fend for themselves I guess. Very sad, as many of these animals don't know how to survive having been domesticated, and there are many predators here.
Fish feel pain and have cognitive skills? Who believes this rubbish.

Welcome, Janet! Feel free to kick back and stay awhile.

I know of a really cool no-kill shelter here in Phoenix, too. There's a lot of them, which is why I really get torked off about people who think they help animals by donating to PETA.

I've got issues with them dating back to college, actually. One of my old English instructors was one of their animal rights nuts, and a local organizer for them. She and her alleluia chorus in the back got on my nerves so damn much I made a point of always wearing every damn leather article of clothing I owned to every sorry class I had to attend. And to really piss the Vegan Brethren off I made sure to eat a McDonald's burger at the beginning of the lecture. I think I've been to McD's six times since then.... ;)

Got a D in Freshman Comp, brothers and sisters! Miss Thang asked me what I thought about it, and I said (in between burger bites) that I could write an error-free composition in three languages, while she could barely manage it in one.

I think she would have changed my grade to an E right there if she could have.....
